DANCEPATH: Featuring Kelli Forman (2017)
A re-imagination of dance documentation, straddling the worlds of pop culture music videos and documentary film. DancePaths unfurls complicated questions of identity and dance through two divergent but coordinated audio and visual pathways, illustrating the disconnects people often feel in their own headspace versus what is happening around them. Through this otherworldly journey, hip hop and contemporary dancer, student, and educator Kelli Forman reflects on what it means to be a white woman in the world of hip hop, what it takes to heal ancestral pain and suffering, and the importance of advocating for access to higher education for hip hop professionals as she pursues her own journey of learning and unlearning. Throughout, she struggles with the question of how to give hip hop the respect and attention it deserves.
